Indianapolis may be a bustling urban metropolis, but our capital city is packed with picturesque parks and trails to explore, including the beautiful Central Canal.
This historic waterway was built back in 1836 in an ambitious plan to connect the Wabash and the Ohio River. But as railroads became more prevalent, construction on the canal ceased entirely.
Now, this 8-mile canal stretches from Broad Ripple to Downtown Indianapolis, providing a scenic waterfront retreat where residents can relax and reconnect with nature.
On a sunny day, you can find cyclists biking by murals, families riding in pedal boats, couples on romantic gondola rides, and countless Hoosiers out on their morning run. The Canal is also a popular destination for community events and concerts—perfect for listening to music while watching the sunset over the water.
